The day after Sandra’s 60th birthday we boarded the Norwegian Cruise Lines Ship ‘Norwegian Sky’ for a 3 day cruise of the Bahamas, stopping at Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay. Despite my reservations about cruising it was extremely enjoyable. We disembarked at Nassau on the 1st day and went on a tour of the island although it was raining for the most part. We did manage to get to a garden in the sunshine where we saw Mockingbird that I was hoping would be Bahama Mockingbird but turned out to be Northern Mockingbird, Gray Kingbird, White-crowned Pigeon and Cape May Warblers
Following a good evening and night we arrived at Great Stirrup Cay and caught an early tender to the island. Whilst my wife relaxed on the beach and did some snorkeling we went for a walk to see what we could find. There were loads of warblers in the trees but getting good shots of them wasn’t an easy task. We did manage to see Cape May Warbler, Black and White Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Northern Parula, Palm Warbler, and Northern Mockingbird. Along the coast we saw Laughing Gull, American Herring Gull, and Spotted Sandpiper.
Next it’s off to the Florida Keys with a quick stop in the Everglades for an airboat ride, which will be posted as ‘A Trip to Florida and the Bahamas part 3’
