The day after Sandra’s 60th birthday we boarded the Norwegian Cruise Lines Ship ‘Norwegian Sky’ for a 3 day cruise of the Bahamas, stopping at Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay. Despite my reservations about cruising it was extremely enjoyable. Disembarking at Nassau on the 1st day we went on a tour of the island, although it was raining for the most part. We did manage to get to a garden in the sunshine where we saw a Mockingbird that I was hoping would be a Bahama Mockingbird but turned out to be a Northern Mockingbird. Also seen was Gray Kingbird, White-crowned Pigeon and Cape May Warblers.
Following a good evening and night we arrived at Great Stirrup Cay. We took an early tender to the island. Sanda relaxed on the beach and did some snorkeling so we went for a walk to see what we could find. There were loads of warblers in the trees but getting good shots of them wasn’t an easy task. Some of the birds seen were Cape May Warbler, Black and White Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Northern Parula, Palm Warbler, and Northern Mockingbird. Along the coast we saw Laughing Gull, American Herring Gull, and Spotted Sandpiper.
Next it’s off to the Florida Keys with a quick stop in the Everglades for an airboat ride. This will be posted in ‘A Trip to Florida and the Bahamas part 3’
